Philippa Gosine is passionate about engineers’ potential to create meaningful, sustainable change in society. Philippa is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. She aims to better understand and prevent falls on stairs by studying biomechanics, balance recovery reactions and the effect of environmental design. Philippa completed her undergraduate degree in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where she completed work terms in marine accident investigation, shipping regulation and safety and biomedical engineering. It was during her work terms in prosthetics at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick that Philippa was inspired to move into biomedical engineering. During her undergraduate degree, Philippa was involved with Engineers Without Borders, including implementing the Global Engineering Certificate at Memorial University as Chapter President 2014-2015 and supporting chapters as the Atlantic Team Lead of the Global Engineering Initiative.
