Online Junior Coding

Winter 2021 Online Coding Workshops
We are pleased to announce that we will be offering Online Junior Coding Workshops for the Winter 2021, taking place from January 29 to March 28. Our team will be offering multiple sessions of coding workshops for Grades 6-8. We are excited to continue to provide this opportunity for students to learn and experience STEM at home.
In addition to our returning coding programming, we will be introducing a new course Tinkercad: Circuits and Code for grades 6-8.
Online Coding Program for Grades 6 through 8
Each workshop includes coding activities that can be conducted from the comfort of your own home!
Students will have the opportunity to choose between two (2) different coding languages. The workshop is led by our instructors who will explore HTML/CSS or Python followed by an activity, all while promoting student engagement and fun. These workshops are designed for beginners and no prior coding experience is required.
The HTML/CSS Coding Workshops may be similar in content to our Summer 2020 Coding Workshops. If you have previously attended our coding workshops, we encourage you to choose the Python workshops.
These workshops are NOT individual sessions. Participants should be available for all three (3) sessions that workshops are offered as concepts/material will be built off from the last lesson.*
*Please note: the workshops consist of the same content as every week. As such, if you register for one session, we highly recommend that you do not sign up again for another.
Grades 6-8
Cost: $100 per week

General Information
Technology Required
Students will be required to use Google Classroom for this workshop. If you are able to attend the program, our team will be following up in the coming days regarding classroom invitations. Please keep in mind that you would be required to use a gmail account to access the classroom. You can find support documents for Google Classroom here.
Materials & Preparation
The workshop will require families to help gather a few materials in order for students to follow along and do the workshop with the instructor. All materials are chosen to be household items with very little-to-no cost. Activity instructions, guidelines, and materials will be sent out one-two days before in the form of Student Activity Sheets, which are 1-2 pages of instructions to help students prepare and conduct the workshop. Guardians are asked to kindly read over and gather the materials for their child ahead of time.
Video Permission
Due to the fact that this is our first take on virtual-only programming, we understand that there is a possibility that a student may accidentally turn the camera on their device on. As such, while we will not be using this content for any media-related purposes, we do require all participants to consent to the possibility of being photographed and/or filmed.
Waitlist
If you see that a course is waitlisted on the registration page, that means there are no available spaces. If a space opens up in the course, those on the waitlist will be notified immediately in the order that they registered.
Creating an Active Account
If this is your first time registering for one of our programs, you will be prompted to create an Active account. The account making process happens after registration. If you are successful in getting a spot in the course, your spot will be held for you as you create your account. There is no need to rush this process.
Please note that it is not possible to create an account before the registration date.
Cancellation Policy
Registrations that are withdrawn or cancelled up to 48 hours before the session start date are eligible for a refund, less an administrative fee of $10.00. No refunds/credits will be issued for any cancellations made less than 24 hours before the session start date. Please note that this charge is simply to cover administrative processing fees. Thank you for your understanding!
Thank you for your continued support of U of T’s Engineering Outreach programs. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to help.
We look forward to seeing you virtually this fall!
