DEEP FAQ – 2013

Can I apply for the program after the application deadline?
Yes, however, you will only be considered for courses or themed topic streams that have room. Please note that most DEEP courses fill up quickly; this is why we recommend that you submit your application by the deadline of April 19, 2013.

What is a Stream?
A Stream is a collection of related courses that complement each other. We have assembled a number of Streams at both the junior and senior levels. Taking all the courses in a Stream is a great way to explore a particular discipline or area of engineering in depth.

I am signing up for a Themed Topic Stream. Can I take any design course?
Yes. You can apply for any of the design courses during DEEP Design Week (Week 4 of DEEP). Although some of the design courses relate to the themed topic streams, you may apply for whichever design course you like.

Can I apply for courses from more than one stream?
Yes, you can pick and choose courses from different streams to create a customized program. You can, however, choose only 1 course per week.

Can I take only one course?
You may take one course per week of DEEP, as each course is one week in length. You may take up to 4 DEEP courses (including a DEEP Design Week course) over the duration of DEEP Summer Academy.

Can I register for DEEP Design Week without taking a course in Week 1, 2 or 3?
No. Students wishing to take a DEEP Design course must take at least one course from the core program during Weeks 1, 2 OR 3.

Should I pick second and third Choice DEEP courses on my application?
Yes. All applicants are required to select second and third choice options for each course they are interested in.

I want more details about a specific course. How can I found out more?
If after reading the course description on the DEEP website you still have questions, please email our DEEP office at enrichment@ecf.utoronto.ca.

What time and what days are classes offered?

I’m a university or college student. Can I register?
No. The DEEP Summer Academy is for high school students or those entering first year of university studies in September 2013. University of Toronto students may, however, apply to become DEEP volunteers.

What happens if my course choice gets cancelled?
If your first choice course is cancelled for any reason but you’ve been accepted into the DEEP Summer Academy, you will be offered an alternative course. Please ensure you make second and third choice courses so that you can automatically be considered for these choices in the event your first choice course is cancelled.

Is financial assistance available?
Yes, we have a bursary program for domestic and international students. Please note that for domestic students, bursaries may be applied to tuition and residence, but for international students bursaries may only be applied to reduce tuition fees. Please email us at enrichment@ecf.utoronto.ca for procedures and the bursary application.
