Discover Jr. DEEP Summer Camp, a hands-on STEM summer camp designed for elementary school students. Students in Grades 3 to 8 explore exciting topics in science, technology, and engineering through fun, hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Inspired by the diverse disciplines within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, this program offers a unique opportunity to explore STEM in a university setting.

Program Highlights

Jr. DEEP Summer Camp allows students the opportunity to take part in fun and engaging STEM learning through practical, activity-based experiences.

Our course instructors are current undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Toronto in science and engineering fields who are excited to share their experiences in STEM and provide mentorship to students interested in STEM careers!

STEM-focussed Program

Exciting and engaging activities that explore various fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Variety of Courses

Students can register for a variety of courses full of interactive experiences designing, creating and building.

Courses are taught by undergraduate students in STEM fields who are passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Jr. DEEP offers a collaborative and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and think creatively.

Eligibility

This program is offered to students in Grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 during the 2024/2025 academic year. To attend, students must currently be in Grades 3–8 (or have completed one of these grades this spring).

For example:

A student who completed Grade 4 this spring and will enter Grade 5 in the fall is eligible for the Grade 3/4 class.
A student who completed Grade 6 this spring and will enter Grade 7 in the fall is eligible for the Grade 5/6 class.

Students who are completing Grade 2 this spring, going into Grade 3 next fall, will not be eligible for Jr. DEEP Summer Camp this year.

Engineering Experience

This program does not require previous experience with engineering or STEM programs.

When registration is open, all the available courses will appear on the registration page.
Add the courses to your cart by clicking "ADD TO CART" after each course you are interested in.
If a course is full, it will say "WAITING LIST ONLY." Add it to your cart to add yourself to the waitlist.
After adding all the courses you're interested in to your cart, hit "CONTINUE" at the top of the page.
On the next page, enter your email address to sign in or create an account.
Indicate which child should be registered for each session you have added to your cart.
Answer the registration questions and read and scroll through the waivers.
Complete your online signature and click "CONTINUE TO CART."
Double check all course information is correct, then enter payment information and click "Pay now."

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email - if you do not, please reach out to us.

Cancellations

Cancellation Policy

A refund or a credit, less a $90 administrative fee is available for cancellation requests received by 11:59 PM ET on the Sunday the week before (7 days before) the session start date.

Week 1 (June 30-July 4): cancel before Sunday, June 22, 2025
Week 2 (July 7-11): cancel before Sunday, June 29, 2025
Week 3 (July 14-18): cancel before Sunday, July 6, 2025
Week 4 (July 21-25): cancel before Sunday, July 13, 2025
Week 5 (July 28-August 1): cancel before Sunday, July 20, 2025
Week 7 (August 11-15): cancel before Sunday, August 3, 2025
Week 8 (August 18-22): cancel before Sunday, August 10, 2025

No refunds or credits will be issued after this point. Please note that this charge is to cover administrative processing fees. Thank you for your understanding!

Waitlists

If a course you are interested in is listed as waitlisted on the registration page, it means all spots are currently full. If the course is full, add it to your cart and go through all the registration steps to join the waitlist.

If a spot opens up in the course and you are the next person on the waitlist, the system will automatically send you an email asking if you would like to register for the spot. At that point you can decide if you would like to register or be removed from the waitlist.

Please note that waitlist offers have a deadline. If your waitlist offer deadline passes and you have not responded to the offer, your waitlist offer will expire and the spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

Course fees include the optional before-care (8:00-9:00 AM) and after-care (4:00-5:00 PM).

Course Offerings 2025

Our summer camp courses are designed for students based on the grade they completed in the spring of this year.
For example, a student who was in Grade 4 this year, starting Grade 5 in the fall, would be eligible for the Grade 3/4 classes.

Girls' Jr DEEP

This week-long program provides an engaging introduction to four key streams of engineering, where students participate in hands-on activities and problem-solving challenges guided by expert instructors. Each day brings a new theme and exciting opportunity to discover how engineering shapes the world around us.

Robotics Adventure: Code & Create

Offered Weeks 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8

This hands-on STEM camp introduces students to the exciting world of robotics! Starting with the basics, campers will learn to create simple circuits, building a strong foundation in electrical principles. As they progress, they'll explore the world of robotics, working with robots equipped with sensors to perform complex tasks. Through fun, interactive projects, students will develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of technology as they design and program robots to perform various functions. Perfect for young inventors ready to dive into the future of robotics!

Brick by Brick: Design and Build

Ever wondered how bridges, towers, and roller coasters are designed? In this hands-on course, students will dive into the world of civil engineering! They'll explore the science behind building strong structures, from choosing materials to understanding how nature impacts design. Through fun, interactive challenges, they'll work to design and build their own structures, testing their creativity and teamwork. Get ready to shape the future of the world around you!

Girls' Jr. DEEP Coding is for grades 5-7

Girls' Jr. DEEP Coding is a crash course that will provide students with the opportunity to master the basics of coding in an all-girls environment. They will be introduced to various coding languages and explore how to create their own programs, with an emphasis on coding logic, programming functionality, and theory. This a beginner coding course meant for students with little to no coding experience.

This course is intended for students who have little to no coding experience.

The Human Computer: Earth to Space

Take your imagination to new heights and beyond! In this aerospace-themed software engineering program, students will explore the role of computers and software in space exploration. They'll learn the basics of software engineering, how computers process information, and how these concepts apply to aerospace technology. Get ready to launch into an out-of-this-world adventure, where you engineer the limits!

Gear Up: Machines in Motion

Ready to dive into the world of cars, engines, and machines? In this exciting course, students will explore the core principles of automotive and mechanical engineering. Through hands-on activities and interactive challenges, students will design and build simple machines, exploring the mechanics behind them. Whether it's the power of an engine, the design of a car, or the gears that make everything run smoothly, students will get an inside look at the world of mechanical engineering and automotive innovation. Survival Mode: Engineering the Solution

"Survival Mode: Engineering the Solution" is an innovative course designed to equip students with the skills and mindset necessary to tackle real-world challenges using engineering principles. Through hands-on projects and critical problem-solving scenarios, students will explore how engineering solutions can be applied in high-pressure, resource-limited environments. The course focuses on adaptive thinking, creative resource management, and the application of engineering fundamentals in crisis situations. Whether designing efficient systems, developing sustainable technologies, or overcoming constraints, participants will leave with practical experience in engineering problem-solving under extreme conditions.
