Calling all science and engineering enthusiasts! At CREATE, students will explore the exciting fields of science and engineering through a unique opportunity to learn from current Undergraduate and Graduate students while engaging with cutting-edge research. The practical activities, laboratory experiments, and site visits will lead participants through the Engineering Design Cycle to find solutions. Join us this summer for an unforgettable learning experience that will inspire and equip you to pursue your passions in science and engineering!

If this is your first time registering for one of our programs, you will be prompted to create an Active account as you register. If you are successful in getting a spot in the workshop, your spot will be held for you as you complete the registration form, so no need to rush.

If you see that a course is waitlisted on the registration page, that means there are no available spaces. If a space opens up in the course, those on the waitlist will be notified immediately in the order that they registered.

Cancellation Policy

A refund or a credit, less a $120 administrative fee is available for cancellation requests received by 11:59 PM ET on the Monday before the session start date. No refunds or credits will be issued after this point. Please note that this charge is to cover administrative processing fees. Thank you for your understanding! For more details regarding cancellation deadlines, please refer to your confirmation email once you have completed the registration process.

Cooking Up a Solution: Can Engineering End World Hunger? Offered Weeks 1, 3, 6

Imagine a world where no one goes hungry, and every person has access to nutritious and safe food. This course delves into the world of food engineering chemistry, exploring how science can help us create a more equitable and sustainable food system. Students will learn about the latest advances in food preservation, processing, and packaging technologies that can extend the shelf life of food, prevent food waste, and make it more accessible to people in need. The course will also cover the nutritional value of different foods, as well as ways to improve food quality and safety. By the end of this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of how food engineering chemistry can help us end world hunger, achieve food security, and improve nutrition.

Game Design: Coding For Change Offered Weeks 1, 3, 4, 6

Are you interested in using your programming skills to make a positive impact on the world around you? In this course, you will learn how to design and build games using Python, with a focus on promoting mental health in kids and youth. You will explore how games can be used to build resilience, reduce stress, and promote positive behaviours. You will learn about key concepts in psychology, such as emotional regulation, mindfulness, and positive psychology, and use them to create games that make a difference. You will work on projects that reflect your own interests and passions, and have the opportunity to collaborate with others to make a real-world impact. By the end of the course, you will have gained valuable skills in programming, game design, and psychology, and be able to create games that promote mental health and well-being for those around you. In this action-packed aerospace course, you'll design, build, and test your own aircraft and learn how to create innovative solutions for the future of air travel. You'll start by mastering 3D modelling software to create a cutting-edge airfoil design that maximizes lift and minimizes drag. Next, you'll put your engineering skills to the test as you build a motorized glider that can fly long distances and perform aerial acrobatics. If you've ever watched and loved shows like 'How It's Made', 'Factory Made', or 'Food Factory', then you'll find this course equally exciting! You'll dive into the fundamentals of manufacturing and explore its relationship with the engineering industry. In this course, you will learn how to build an autonomous rover using Arduino and program it to perform a variety of tasks. You will start by learning the basics of Arduino programming and robotics, including sensor integration, motor control, and navigation. You will then explore how autonomous rovers can be used to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all. You will learn about topics such as precision agriculture, smart manufacturing, and logistics optimization, and work on projects that reflect your own interests and passions. You will then dive into programming and data analytics, and learn how to use tools like Python and R to analyze data and optimize processes. You will explore topics like queuing theory, simulation, and linear programming, and apply them to real-world problems related to reducing inequalities in healthcare, education, and social services. Artificial Intelligence: Sorting It Out! Offered Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6

In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and explore how it can be used to tackle real-world problems. One such problem is sorting garbage and recycling. You will work in teams to design and implement an AI-based system that can accurately sort various materials into appropriate categories. You will use machine learning algorithms to train your systems on image and sensor data, and develop strategies for optimizing the system's accuracy and efficiency. Along the way, you will learn about key concepts in AI, such as neural networks, deep learning, and reinforcement learning. By the end of the course, you will have gained hands-on experience with AI tools and techniques, and will have developed a deeper understanding of how AI can be used to solve complex problems in the world around us.

Water for All Offered Weeks 2

In this course, you will explore the challenges of providing access to clean water and sanitation for all. You will learn about the role of civil engineers in designing, building, and maintaining water and sanitation infrastructure, and how they work with other professionals to ensure that everyone has access to these essential resources. You will study the hydrological cycle, water quality, and treatment processes, and how they relate to public health and environmental sustainability. You will also learn about the importance of community engagement, and how civil engineers can work with local communities to ensure that water and sanitation services are accessible, affordable, and sustainable. By the end of the course, you will have gained a deeper understanding of the role of civil engineering in ensuring access to water and sanitation for all, and be better equipped to tackle this global challenge.

Exploring the Brain: From Neurons to Prosthetics Offered Weeks 1, 2, 4

In this course, you will explore the fascinating world of neuroscience and learn how scientists and engineers are using cutting-edge technologies to study and manipulate the brain. You will study the principles of electrophysiology and learn how to record and analyze neural signals using techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), and electrocardiography (ECG). You will also learn about brain-computer interfaces and how they are being used to develop prosthetics and other assistive technologies. Through hands-on experiments and projects, you will gain experience with signal processing, feature extraction, and machine learning techniques for classifying neural signals. In this exciting course, you'll learn about the world of chemical and process engineering in the context of drug manufacturing. You'll discover how to use chemical principles to synthesize drugs like acetaminophen, and explore the various stages of the drug manufacturing process, from discovery to production. You'll also learn about the ethical and safety considerations that go into drug manufacturing, as well as the regulatory environment in which drugs are developed and produced. Through hands-on laboratory work, you'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge of chemistry and engineering to create your own pharmaceutical products.
