CREATE: Engineering Design Challenges and DEEP Summer Academy are both summer programs for high school students, hosted by Engineering Outreach at the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto.

Both of these programs are application-based programs, which means students need to apply and be accepted to each program individually in order to register for courses in that program. Students may choose to apply to just CREATE, just DEEP, or both CREATE and DEEP.

Step 3: Wait for Results

Applications are reviewed in rounds.

If you submitted your application in Round 4, you’ll receive results within two weeks of submission.

Click here to see dates for each round.

Step 4: Course Selection for Admitted Students

If accepted to the program, you’ll receive instructions about how to select and register for courses.

Students can only register for courses in the program they have been accepted to (i.e. students must apply and be accepted to both CREATE & DEEP if they would like to register for both CREATE & DEEP courses).

Important Notes:

  • Course registration happens in rounds.
  • Students accepted into the program during Round 1 will register for courses first, those accepted in Round 2 register second, and so on.
  • For this reason some courses may fill in early rounds.
  • We recommend applying early to increase your chances of getting into the program and desired courses.

Important: Only one course can be taken per week. A $135 non-refundable deposit is required to secure each course.

Statement of Interest Details

What is the Statement of Interest?

The Statement of Interest is a video component of the application that takes about 30 minutes to complete online.

  • It consists of five randomly-selected questions.
  • For each question, applicants will record a one-minute video response after 30 seconds of preparation.
  • Video responses will help us get to know each applicant. We are interested in their experience and communication skills – keep in mind, there is no ‘right’ answer.

Please note, applications to CREATE and DEEP will not be assessed if the Statement of Interest is not completed.
